Cabin audio brings the airline PA experience into a live flight, chimes and captain/crew announcements tied to your flight phase, generated for your specific flight rather than a generic recording.
Here's what a real welcome aboard announcement sounds like.
Welcome aboard Lufthansa flight L H 5 2 to Frankfurt. We are preparing the aircraft for departure. Please find your seat, stow your carry-on luggage securely in the overhead compartment or under the seat in front of you, and fasten your seatbelt.
Chimes and announcements
Most phases get a chime, boarding, taxi out, takeoff, climb, cruise, descent, approach, landing, taxi in, and parked. Boarding and the landing/parked moment get their own distinct chime, everything else uses the standard attention chime.
On top of the chime, many phases get a full spoken PA announcement, personalized with details from your actual flight: your airline and flight number if set, your aircraft, your cruise altitude, your route and estimated flight time, even a time-of-day greeting worked out from your departure and arrival longitude. A few examples of what gets said, in English:
- Boarding: welcomes passengers aboard your specific flight and destination, and asks them to find their seat and stow their bags.
- Taxi out: a captain-style welcome naming your aircraft, cruise altitude, flight time, and estimated arrival time.
- Cruise, descent, taxi in, parked: shorter updates appropriate to that stage of the flight.
How much you hear
You control how talkative the cabin gets, from the Cockpit:
- Chimes only: just the tones, no PA announcements.
- Standard: chimes plus the key announcements (boarding, taxi out, descent, and a few others).
- Full: chimes plus an announcement on every phase that has one.
Language and voice
Announcements are available in English and Spanish, and you can pick between two voice styles. Whichever you choose, generation happens once per unique combination of flight details, phase, language, and voice, and is cached, so repeat listens (or another pilot flying the same route) don't regenerate audio that already exists.
It shares the channel
Cabin audio, ATC, the First Officer, and Airport Information all share the same audio lock in the Cockpit, so they queue politely instead of talking over each other. If you're mid radio call, a cabin announcement waits its turn.
Turning it down
If you'd rather fly without the extra chatter, chimes-only mode keeps the flight quiet while still marking each phase, or you can look at the volume and mute controls in the Cockpit's sound settings.
